A Summary of the DistrictLovejoy ISD, which serves the cities of Allen, Luacas, Fairview, and McKinney, began as a one room school house in 1917 and has since grown into a vibrant and academically rich K-12 school system. As of 2007, it serves 2501 students and is the third smallest (in terms of student population) school district in the Metroplex. It is a high growth district, both in terms of student enrollment and land development. Only 2% of the students in the district are economically disadvantaged compared to the statewide average of 52%, and the students have a 96% passing rate on the TAKS test. In both of these categories Lovejoy is third in the area just behind Highland Park and Carrol. In short Lovejoy is, and likely will remain one of the best school districts available to parents living and working in the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex. The residential growth of the area is projected to continue at a steady rate until 2017, during which time 2366 additional housing units are expected to be built. The average student to household ratio for the district is 0.71, but this number varies from 0 to 2.01 depending on the subdivision. The median work commute time for residents in LISD is 38 minutes, and these numbers range from 30 min-1 hour.
